Located within a warehouse building in Vancouver, the LAJ Office/Shop consists of an office space with a connected retail space for the new Leah Alexandra Jewelry Headquarters. Plastered walls with smooth curvatures simultaneously separate, connect, and guide you through diverse areas needed for all aspects of the jewelry studio, including the owner’s private office, operations and production areas, kitchen, and retail space. These areas are seamlessly connected within a coherent, flexible, and functoinally calm office. Surprising encounters of diverse stones in the space, complemented with soft shapes, textures, and materials, create a refined fun environment to be in.
An open workspace provides diverse work areas defined yet open visually and connected with materiality. Sight lines are clear and create connection between team members. Circulation between the areas is free flowing. Yet the varied areas are distinct and considered for the type of activity that occurs there. Work stations and nooks provide provide individual moments of focus, while long open marble islands delineating and connecting areas spark communal collaborations and impromptu meetings.
Customers in the retail area are provided an opportunity to connect visually with the jewelry design studio office area. Entry points to the office area from the retail are draped with translucent fabric that invites customers to observe the making of the jewelry that is being showcased before them. Sculptural volumes in travertine and green onyx stone intersect and provide an engaing display to hold the jewelry that is intricatelt made by the LAJ team in the adjacent office studio space. The material palette of the office are extends into the area to further the feeling of cohesion, yet it remains a distinct space.
